We are offering to dye a variety of wools from soft top coats to course coloured core like easy felt coloured wool. The choice of wool is very important for the job you’d like to do. We recommend Teeswater or Shetland if you are a spinner. If you are a rug maker it depends on whether you want soft and smooth or rougher texture.
Alpaca is very soft but sometimes the dye can split as it is a much harder wool to take up the dye but it does produce a lovely variety in the wool. Sometimes it takes up all the dye and produces a very uniform colour so be open minded if you choose alpaca.
Next we have a drop down list of very easy to dye, easy to work with wools for all jobs. Going from softest to courses we have Teeswater, Shetland, Ryeland, Mule, Texel and Swaledale.
