Unique features: The only fleece we have here which represents Ireland and aside of that the Galway fleeces are so soft and lovely to spin. They are nice and white in colour and fairly lofty so they are very easy to work and process. Definitely good for all spinner levels
The Galway sheep originated from County Galway in Ireland. They have been around since the 1700s so are an old breed. They are an extremely rare breed of sheep to find now, with only 39 pedigree flocks remaining. We can secure a large quantity of it.
They are a large bodied sheep who have white fleeces with a small amount of wool also on their head and legs. They are a polled sheep, meaning they have no horns. They can easily adapt to all terrain types and weather conditions whilst also being able to produce good lambs year on year.
The Galway is a white, medium staple, full bodied, bouncy fleece with a nice crimp and softness to it. Its a breed that is hard to find but with the right suppliers we are lucky enough to stock Galway wool! These fine fleeces are a hit with hand spinners because the wool is very soft and easy to work but it is also great for all other crafts and what a wool to display Irish heritage themed projects with!
