This breed is very old! It was a combination of a multitude of breeds back in the early 1800s. This included breeds from Wiltshire, Hampshire and Berkshire.
This is a hornless sheep who has a white/cream fleece which also covers their face and legs. Where they aren't covered in wool, they have dark skin which peeps through the fleece. They have a fine but dense fleece which makes the sheep able to adapt to lots of different farming environments. These breeds are now found throughout the entire of the UK and their ease of keeping and lambing makes them a popular breed to own!
The Hampshire down fleece is very soft to touch, has a medium staple length and is a spongy fleece. Their fleece is ideal for spinning but also for use with peg loom rugs too! The fleece is considered wearable, so is great for knitting.
