This breed has grazed the Pennines for centuries. One specific bloodline can be traced back to 1740! It took a while for the breed society to be created and was only first established in 1905.
This is one of our largest native hill breeds in the UK who are able to thrive on poor grazing land. They are very hardy and are able to survive through most weather conditions thrown at them. They are good mothers who are able to produce twins regularly. Both sexes will usually have horns with a black and white speckled face and legs.
Due to the environment that these sheep typically graze, they have a bulky fleece which provides them with warmth and protection. Their fleece can be lovely and soft with a brilliant staple for spinning, peg loom weaving and other craft areas
