Region: Modern UK breed but has Swedish influence in the UK
Slender bodied white longwool
Average Fleece Weight: 2-5 KG
Average Staple Length: 4 - 8 Inches
Micron Range: 37 - 40
Recommended Craft areas :- Peg loom weaving, needle felting
Unique features: This is a hair like modern breed with a cross of two coarse longwools. It has a lot of big waves and curls in it for sculpture work and the fibre is also incredibly strong.
The Silvernose is a cross between the Valais Blacknose and the Greyface Dartmoor. I don’t have much information available about this breed as it is a very modern cross breed. Their fleece acts in a similar manner to the Valais Blacknose but has additional curls throughout the fleece due to the dartmoor genes. The coarseness of the fleece very much depends on which parent they have inherited more from! Either way, we find the fibre is very easy to work with especially for rug making. The fibres are long and almost hair-like and are white/off white in colour. They tend to be very similar to Valais Blacknose fleeces, just a little finer.
