There are several links to the history of these sheep, some refer to them being saved from the Spanish Armada. But in more recent times, they are believed to be influenced by the southdown rams in the early 19th century. Their name derives from the area they were typically found and that was Vendee, Southern Brittany. They have a long elongated body which means they are easy lambers yet provide a good meaty carcass.
The fleece is an excellent example of fleece. It is a fine, medium length fibre which is very soft to the touch. It is great for spinning, weaving and for wearable clothing.
