Carded - Lleyn

from £8.00

This is a breed native to the Lleyn Peninsula, North West Wales. If tales are true, then it was imported by a wealthy landlord in the 19th century to improve the local welsh breeds. The lleyn is gaining popularity as a commercial ewe due to its easy keep. They are a medium built sheep which is white from head to hoof.

They have a relatively heavy and dense fleece, but it is short in staple length. We find the fleece soft to touch and this makes it suitable for knitwear and clothing. It is also a good candidate for our rugs as it is a resilient wool to wear and tear.

Average Fleece Weight: 2.5-4 KG

Average Staple Length: 2-4 Inches

Micron Range: 31- 34

Recommended craft areas. Spinning, needle felting, peg loom weaving. Welsh themed craft
