There are no current records of how long this breed has been on UK soil. It originated from Radnor, Monmouthshire and Brecon. The breed are traditionally grazed on hills and rougher land. They are a heavily build sheep who is very hardy. They generally have a docile nature and are excellent mothers. They tend to have a grey nose, with a mousey coloured face and legs. Only the ram develops curly horns, the females are hornless.

The fleece is dense and white, as the sheep age they develop more kemp in the fleece. This is an excellent Welsh wool which can be for rug making. It is spongy and textured with a medium staple.

Average Staple length: 3-6 inches.
