This is the largest Welsh mountain breed and it is believed to derive from the same primitive sheep as the Welsh Mountain breed. But due to this breed being bred and contained to such a small area, it has meant they have very specific characteristics compared to other hill breeds.
This breed has some lovely tan markings to their face and legs! They also often have a tan/brown colour which makes them stand out against other similar breeds. They have a dense fleece which makes it a weighty fleece. They typically have some white kemp in their fleeces which helps to keep the sheep warm on the mountains. It is a coarse wool which is ideal for rugs and tougher wearing items. We can describe it as like a red coloured Welsh Herdwick. So it is a very wiry form of wool
