Carded - Ouessant

from £8.00

his breed of sheep originated from the Island of Ouessant which is found just off the coast of Brittany. Up until the 20th century, this was the only place where this breed could be found. They are a very small breed who are typically black or dark brown, but there are more colour variants coming through now. The rams usually have 2 horns which curl back around their ears, and the females don’t have horns.

Their fleece is typically very thick with a medium length staple. Historically, the entire island would be clothed in knitted wear from this breed! We find that this breed is great for spinning as it is lovely and soft with plenty of bounce.

Average Fleece Weight: 2-2.5 KG

Average Staple Length: 3-4 Inches

Micron Range: 25-35

Recommended Craft Areas: Spinning
