Unique features: The most unique colour as such a white, soft fleece has these red fibres running a blusher through the fleece. The wool is absolutely gorgeous and skin wearable so it is a fantastic slender, soft wool for spinning in to yarn for clothing.
This is quite an old breed which was common in Dorset originally. It is believed to derive from the South West breed but it has been altered through the years to get to the breed we see today. They are a small breed with a tan coloured face and legs. They usually have a long tail which is covered in wool. They also typically have white/cream coloured horns which curl back over their ears. The ewes are able to breed outside of lambing season, and produce red coloured lambs which slowly turn white as they age.
Their fleece is fine and soft which is fantastic for weaving, spinning and also knitting. It is a very wearable fibre. The portant is a very rare breed, so we are very lucky to have a constant supply of portland wool.
