Hebridean

One of our best sellers when it comes to rugs! The Hebridean sheep originated from the Hebridean Islands in Scotland in the early 19th century. These are a small but hardy breed who is able to survive in bitter temperatures. Their ability to thrive on poor pastures makes them ideal for conservation projects too. They are a hit with smallholders as they require little work and grazing!

Hebrideans have a jet black fleece which covers their body. They typically have 2 horns, which can curl round their ears as they grow. Their fleece is an excellent medium soft, wavy, medium to long staple brown/black wool. Excellent for rug making and weaving. Also excellent for animal needle felting. Beautiful variation in colour from jet black to browns and grey depending on genetics and age of the sheep.

Average Fleece Weight: 0.8-1kg dry weight

Average Staple length: 2-6 inches.
