This is a very old British breed which dates back to the 1800s, the breed society is the oldest known to date! They are said to be a cross of horned black sheep and white faced polled sheep. They are a medium breed who prefer the downlands. They have black ears, face and legs and have a dense wool on their face and legs.
They have a heavy fleece which is slightly downy but has a long staple length with a lovely crimp. The fleece is typically white, but can be cream too. It is a soft fleece which is good for spinning, weaving and is very wearable.
