This breed of sheep is a descendant of a native sheep to Dartmoor which has been around since the 17th-18th century. They are built to withstand the bleak environments of the dartmoor so are incredibly hardy. As the name suggests, they are all white faced minus a small amount of black around their noses. The rams have spiral horns which come around their face and females are hornless. There is no wool to their face or legs.
Their wool is very different to the Greyfaced Dartmoor. It is a lot softer and has a lovely crimp. It is a longwool which has a lovely shiny white colour once scoured. It is ideal for adding texture to needle felting or for use in peg loom rugs.
