These Ginger/Brown (moorit) coloured sheep are very tough and resilient to most weather and ground conditions. They typically have a small body but are very long legged and are native to Western Scotland.
Their fleeces range from a cream, tan and brown in places and it is very soft to handle and work with. Their fleece only covers their body only, so typically don't have much weight to the fleeces due to a smaller body compared to other sheep breeds. They have 2 horns, regardless of gender! The male horns produce more of a spiral shape around their ears, whereas the females remain semi curled but above their ears.
Their wool is very easy to work with all round but particularly great for needle felting ginger/brown natural tufts. We personally find it a little too coarse for underlayers of clothing and spinning but it excels in outer garments in clothing and produces some amazing wildlife colours for needle felting. Castlemilk Moorit goes extremely well to make a white wool sandy coloured in a blend.
Average Fleece Weight: 1-2 KG (0.8-1kg washed weight)
Average Staple length: 2-4 inches.
Micron Range: 30-32
Recommended Craft Areas - Needle Felting, spinning
