W&D - Devon Closewool (British Rarebreed)

£25.00

The Devon Closewool was first established in the 19th century. They are a cross between Devon Longwool and an Exmoor Horn. These have been bred to be very hardy given they originated from Exmoor. They are a white sheep with an overall covering of fleece. The fleece is very short and dense in its staple so the breed can withstand bad weather conditions.

We have found that this fleece is excellent for needle felting and stuffing but its more coarse to touch and the staple isn’t really long enough for peg loom weaving.

Average Fleece Weight - 2.5kg

Average Staple length - 4 inches

Micron Range - 34-35

Recommended craft areas - Needle felting, stuffing
