The Dutch Spotted is actually native to The Netherlands where they are know as Nederlandse Bonte Schaap and they were originally used to graze the edges of lakes, bogs and swamps and to remove any saplings which emerged on the land. The breed developed a natural resistance to hoof diseases and could tolerate acidic grasslands due to natural evolution from boggy environments.
The Dutch Spotted is an excellent producer of prime lambs and they always excell in market value. They have a lovely colourful and medium soft fleece which is great for all uses apart from wet felting. When carded the colours blend into beautiful shades of brown and grey but in the raw they are tri coloured and the fleece has a beautiful bounce to it. The colouration and softness is excellent
