Unique features: We think Masham is the softest longwool once spun and in yarn form it blends very well with Bluefaced Leicester or Shetland to produce an exceptional yarn. The lovely long locks are fantastic for needle felting and even fancy peg loom weaving and other art. It is truly a fantastic wool. The lock structure is a bit thicker and more open than pure Teeswater. It is fantastic to dye all different colours

The Masham is a cross breed who has been identified as a breed on its own since 1986. It is a combination of a teeswater/wensleydale ram back to a hill ewe - typically a swaledale but sometimes a dalesbred. The breed has black and white speckles all over its face and legs. They typically have a few locks of wool which falls onto their face and the rest of their body is covered in lovely curly locks.

They have a heavy fleece which is very lustrous, typically white and relatively soft to touch. Masham is a lovely spinning wool. We sell a lot of Masham curls to add definition to needle felting projects. They are also very good to blend with other wools for peg loom rugs to add definition and thickness to the rug via their curls. They have some lovely long locks which always look fantastic and great for needle felters. It will also wet felt but it is a bit of an expensive high end wool for backing wool but wet felting art and locks could look very nice.
