The Dalesbred is a hill sheep formed by crossing the Swaledale and Blackface together. They are a modern breed compared to others in the UK but they are incredibly hardy suited to rugged terrain. The breed was founded in the mid 1900s. The Dalesbred has very unique features with a black face that has two white stripes and two horns that curl around their ears. Their fleece is like a double coat with lots of grey colouration. It has a thick underlayer and very long locks on the top layer giving the ultimate texture. The fleece is so coarse it’s not really wearable but given it’s staple length and appearance it is fantastic for textured art and peg loom weaving.
The fleeces are very easy to work so easy to wash, they dry and wet felt very well and they are also easy to card too
