Unique features: Viking representation, beautiful colouring the most unique being the slender ginger locks not found in any other breed on UK soil. A fantastic wool for wet felting, and a wool which is soft to spin. The locks are perfect for needle felting both hair like top coats and massive abstract real lifelike locks. The staple is long and strong enough to peg loom weave but it is slender so it will take a lot of wool to make a full rug. This is one of our top ranked favourite breeds!
This breed of sheep was brought over to Iceland during the 9th century by the Vikings! They have a similar breedline to the Shetland breed. These sheep are able to adapt to all types of weather conditions and are extremely good mothers who are very milky.
Their fleeces can come in a range of colours including - Black, white, tan, brown and grey. Both sexes grow horns which slightly curl backwards from their skull.
They have multi textured fleece with a good strong staple and plenty of bounce. It provides beautiful colours which are ideal for spinning and weaving. The fleeces wet felt very easily and the locks are fabulous for peg loom work and needle felting. Perfect breed for all reenactment work
